How the school is run
Four groups, and each of them is accountable for something.
Small schools often leave this vague. We would rather write it down, because a parent deciding whether to trust us with their child is entitled to know who decides what.
The proprietor
Al-Ibrab Memorial School is privately owned, and was founded in May 2020 by Fatima Ibrahim Haruna. The proprietor carries the school's purpose — education for orphans and less privileged children — and the final decision on scholarship awards, staffing and whether the school's money is being spent on what it says it is.
Teaching staff
The teachers sit the admission examinations with every applicant, decide where a pupil is placed, and review that placement rather than leaving a child in the wrong class because the register says so. The placement judgement is theirs, not the office's.
Parents and guardians
Fees are low and published so that a family can hold us to them. Guardians give or withhold consent for every photograph on this site, and a request to take one down is honoured without explanation. One term's written notice is all that is required to withdraw a pupil.
Sponsors
Scholarship places are funded by people who do not live here and will probably never meet the child. In exchange they get the one thing we can honestly offer: a written account at the end of every term of how the school year is going and where the term's funds went.
The people in the building
Nurturing young minds, one lesson at a time.
The founder and the school's stakeholders, named as the school itself records them. Photographs are still to come, so each name carries its own initials rather than a stand-in face.

Join us
Teachers, volunteers and anyone with a skill to lend.
We are a small school with a long waiting list of children and a permanently short list of hands. If you teach, if you can help with reading, or if you have a trade a class of eleven-year-olds would be better for seeing — write to the school office.
Anyone who will be in contact with pupils is spoken to in person first. That is not a formality; it is the condition of being here.
What we are usually short of
- Qualified teachers, primary and secondary
- Reading help for pupils who started school late
- Books, exercise books and classroom materials
- Sponsors willing to fund a scholarship place for a year
Take the next step
The staff are here. The places are the hard part.
Teachers can be recruited. A scholarship place has to be paid for by somebody — and ₦30,000 pays for a whole year of one.
